Crop Weather Information - Lentil

Lentil is adapted to cooler growing conditions. It has been grown extensively in the semi-arid parts of the world. Reproductive performance of Lentil is particularly affected because Lentil has poor tolerance for high temperatures, especially at flowering and pod set stage.

  • Lentil is photoperiod sensitive crop and requires 11.2-11.4 hr during it life cycle.
  • At least 5-12.8 o C Soil temperature is required for lentil growth  and an average of  100 mm water is required its different growing phases.
  • During germination and vegetative stages, its requires 10-21.15o C temperature and relative humidity 50-90%. On the other hand, below 10 o C temperature and above 24 o C temperature is harmful for the crop germination.
  • Suitable temperature and relative humidity of lentil flowering and pod initiation stages are 14 -25o C and 45-75% respectively. Whereas above 32°C temperature is affected flowering and pod initiation of lentil.
